It’s National Afternoon Tea Week. It’s almost 200 years since the afternoon tea was invented by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, to fill the gap between lunch and the late evening meal. It was originally a private event for ladies but when Queen Victoria started serving it, it became a formal occasion with up to two hundred guests and of course the Victoria Sponge cake.
